What Is PageRank?

PageRank is a very important element in the blogging world. So not surprized if every blogger compete to raise their site Pagerank. Then what is Pagerank and why pagerank is important for Bloggers?

PageRank
is a measurement tool that was created by Larry Page and Sergey Brin to define which site were more popular and eligible to appear on the main page of google search engine. Rating based on the number range from 0-10. More higher of the site page rank, more popular the site in search engine result page.

Why high Page Rank was important for Bloggers?
Sites that have a high pagerank will be sorted first than the site with low pagerank. For example: A site that have a pagerank of 9 will be sort first in the Google search than the site with page rank of 8 and so on. So the possibility of web visited by internet users will be more higher. Thats why the advertisers more interesting advertise like PPC, direct ads, and PTR in the site with high pagerank than the low pagerank site.

There are many ways used by search engines to determining the ranking of web. Such as optimize the Meta Tags, post quality content, and many other techniques. Link popularity is a technology developed to improve the lack of other techniques (Meta Keywords, Meta Description), which can be cheat with a special page designed for search engines called doorway pages.

Page rank had the same basic concept with a link popularity, but it does not only consider the "number" of inbound and outbound links. but also based on the quality of links that lead to the site.

Actually they had a formula to calculate page rank, but it's too complex. So I'm not list here. For those of you who want to know about its formula. You can see it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page_rank. :)
