Working Too Long In Front Of Computer? Use 20-20-20 Rule

If you are the person who work for a long time in front of computer, for example up to several hours, then you should pay attention to your eye health. Too long in front of a computer screen without a break can cause dry eyes, redness or other risks. A professional blogger, Amit Agarwal, have tips to give your eyes break with the 20-20-20 Rule. What's 20-20-20 rule?

Brightness levels of monitor which continuously caught by eye can cause eye fatigue, dry eyes and followed by red eye.

To overcome this problem, 20-20-20 rule can be applied. What is the purpose of this rule? Simply, this rule recommends every 20 minutes of work in front of the computer we must rest at least 20 seconds to see an object or objects that distance about 20 feet (20 feet = 6 meter).

But sometimes, most of us did not have time to do that, and sometimes we work in a room that does not have distance as far as 6 meters to rest our eyes. Alternatively, we could use the help of free software to rest our eyes.

Eye Defender is a free software (running on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7) which gives a warning to take a break for a while, Visual Training provided approximately one minute so our eyes can be more fresh (Download EyeDefenderSetup.exe [186 KB ]). Visually it looks like the following video:

In order to perform visual training as above, adjust the settings for this program (right click the Eye icon Defender, select Settings, and select "Start the visual training"). Every few minutes would appear Visual training and we just have to follow the direction of the screen displayed pointer, and after completion, this can help make our eyes more relaxed.

Other free software that can be used is Workrave, which also helps to remind to rest our eyes for a moment by providing two methods (micro-breaks and rest-break).

Other tips to reduce eyestrain, adjust the screen brightness level. Try not too bright so not cause eyes tired quickly.
