As one of the main sources of carbohydrates, potatoes can be processed in various ways - fried, boiled, baked, or served with meat and vegetables. Therefore, the tuber which scientific name is Solanum Tuberosum became so popular until now.
In some countries, these plants even become an important staple foods. Although its shape is very simple, but potatoes provide a lot of health benefits to the body, this may due to the nutrients content in it. Potatoes contain calcium, protein, and carbohydrate. In addition to that, the potatoes also contain other substances such as iron and riboflavin which are important for the body.
Apart from that, potatoes also contain vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant to fight free radicals in the body. Potatoes also contain several other vitamins such as vitamin B6, which plays a role in synthesis and metabolism. Vitamin B6 also beneficial in the metabolism of energy derived from carbohydrates.
Besides the health benefits mentioned above, potatoes also contain small amounts of a kind of chemical called solanine. If this chemical entered the body, a person will experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and headache.
Clean the potatoes before further processing and cooking with high heat are steps to eliminate the solanine content in it.
