According to Harvard Women's Health, drinking several cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, gallstones, colon cancer, Parkinson's disease, liver damage (cirrhosis), heart disease, and prevent cognitive decline.
Health Benefits of drinking Coffee
- Prevent heart disease. Certain content in Coffee can help prevent heart attack to strokes. This has been demonstrated in a study involving more than 83 000 women aged 24 years has found that those who drank 2-3 cups of coffee per day had a 19% lower risk of heart disease than non-coffee drinkers.
- Reduce Cancer risk. Research has consistently shown that coffee consumption reduces the risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, and liver cancer.
- Lower Parkinson’s disease risk. The antioxidant in Coffee helps lower the risk of Parkinson's disease. A study suggests that people who drink at least one cup of coffee a day had half the risk of Parkinson's lower than those who drank no coffee.
- Improve Cognitive function. A Study of 4197 women and 2820 men in France showed that drinking at least three cups of coffee a day can prevent cognitive decline due to aging of the brain by up to 33 percent in women. However, similar benefits are not found in men. This is probably because women are more sensitive to caffeine.
- Prevent gallstones. Gallstones occur when bile, which is normally fluid, forms stones in the gallbladder. The Xanthine substance found in caffeine may reduce the risk of gallstones by breaking down the stones. Two or more cups of coffee per day can lower the risk of gallstones by up to 40 percent.
- Reduce liver disease. Regular coffee consumption may also help protect you against liver cirrhosis. According to a research in Italy, US and Japan, drinking at least 3-4 cups of coffee per day can reduce the risk of liver cirrhosis by 80 % when compared to those who don't consume coffee.
